Nomadland (2020) has won award after award since its premier at the Venice Film Festival, sweeping the movie industry's highest honours including Best Motion Picture - Drama and Best Director at the Golden Globes and Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Director at the 93rd Academy Awards (The Oscars).
The film was adapted from Jessica Bruder's 2017 book, Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century, and follows Fern (Frances McDormand), a woman in her 60s working at an Amazon warehouse, as she embarks on a nomadic van-dwelling journey across the US.
But does Nomadland deserve all the Hollywood awards and critical acclaim?
There's only one way to find out and that's to watch it yourself!
(personally, I watched it on Hulu yesterday using a VPN)
Canadians can watch Nomadland (2020) with an active Disney+ subscription through Star, the company's international brand with 150+ TV shows and 500+ movies.
Star is basically an international version of Hulu and it's included for free with Disney+.
However, you may need to adjust the parental controls to 18+ in order to watch Star as the content is aimed towards an adult audience.
Alternatively, you can watch Nomadland on Hulu using a VPN (this is what I did). A VPN lets you connect to a US IP address so that you can watch Hulu like a US customer.
This is helpful if you don't want to subscribe to Disney+ (which stopped offering free trials) as you can still get Hulu for free with a 30-day free trial.
Hulu also has the cheapest subscription plan at US $5.99 per month (with ads, however) and includes Hulu originals like the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale.
